Large Northwest Persian Merhivan Palace rug 11’9” x 19’3”

Semi antique large rug ca. 1960.
Hand knotted wool pile cotton foundation.

Very large oversize village rug from Persia. Stunning deep red field with rich colors throughout. Overall geometric motif with a light blue center medallion framed in multiple, concentric medallions. Main field in a deep and bright red, featuring geometric interpretations of flowers and tendrils.

Definitive, diamond orientation throughout: Carried from the center of the rug, through to the spandrels of each corner. Border wraps the carpet with beautiful semblance: A traditional Persian “turtle” motif in a wide variety of whimsical and alternating, upbeat colors.

Very good, solid construction with original, full plush pile. Comparable to Heriz carpets in motif and color tone. Mehrivan carpets are considered among the more affordable and authentic alternatives to Heriz carpets with little compromise in aesthetics.

Alternate Spellings: Mehriban, Mehraban.
